The Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre Anglia

The Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre Anglia is a leading ‘one-stop-shop’ for free and impartial energy saving advice for households.

Advice and information is available on

· Making Homes More Energy Efficient

· Getting Energy From Renewable Sources (e.g. wind or solar)

· Travelling With Lower Carbon Emissions

Saving energy reduces the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that cause climate change and saves money on fuel bills. Most of the energy we use comes from burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) which releases climate changing gases.

The climate is changing and energy prices are rising so the Centre advises on energy saving and the grants that are available to help pay for energy saving action in the home. Following recent energy price rises the average household could now save over £300 a year on their energy bills through energy saving.

Over 33,000 households have received free and impartial advice from the Centre since it was launched in April 2005 and all homeowners can take advantage of the service.

Making the most of energy will reduce a typical household’s carbon emissions by 2 tonnes (a third of the annual total) and could save over £300 per year. The simplest and most effective action that all households should take is to insulate their homes properly – 10’’ or 270 mm of loft insulation and fill their cavity walls.

The Centre is a not-for-profit organisation funded by the Government and managed by Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT).

So How Does The Climate Affect The Residents Of Stanground?

The summers are becoming warmer and drier, good for going to the beach but also leading to water shortages and hosepipe bans. The winters are becoming wetter with very heavy rain leading to an increased risk of flooding. Peterborough being part of the Anglia region is very flat and therefore at risk of flooding from the regions rivers. So it is important as a community to do your bit and save your 20% and reduce the impact on Climate Change, plus with the amendments made to your home reducing carbon emissions you will see a reduction in your monthly bills.
